The Story:

Leta Lynn Cordes, 49, has been missing from the Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten / Saint Martin since Friday, January 11, 2008.

She was last seen by her husband Frank Cordes and his Mother sometime around 10:30PM on the Dutch side of the island at their vacation home in Dawn Beach. Frank Cordes has stated Leta departed their vacation home alone on foot to make the half mile walk to the casino at the Westin Hotel. She has not been seen since.

She never made it to the Westin according to surveillance tapes, and there were no eye witnesses placing her at the hotel that night, or on the road to the hotel.

According to Frank Cordes, Leta apparently had nothing more than a blouse, jean shorts, black laced sandals, around $200, and her drivers license (she did not have her passport). She also was not carrying a cellphone.

The Facts:

Leta Cordes is an American who resides in Mission Viejo, California with her German husband Frank Cordes.

Leta Cordes and her husband had been visiting the island of Sint Maarten for several years, and just finished building a vacation home in Dawn Beach near the Westin Hotel. They felt comfortable and safe.

According to those close to Leta Cordes, her and her husband Frank Cordes were having marital issues at the time of her disappearance.

According to numerous witnesses on the day of her disappearance Leta and Frank had been arguing. Evidently the arguing continued well into the evening in front of Frank Corde’s Mother who had just arrived from Germany that afternoon.

The three of them were seen eating dinner together the evening of Leta’s disappearance. After returning home from a restaurant Leta was discovered by a neighbor alone in the back of their vehicle sometime around 9:30PM that evening. The concerned neighbor saw her enter her vacation home a short time later.

On the night of her disappearance she made a phone call from the house land-line around 10:24PM and that was the last anyone heard from her other than Frank Cordes and his Mother.

Frank Cordes was arrested and held in pre-trial detention for over three months concerning Leta’s disappearance, but has been released. The investigation is still open, however it appears Frank Cordes remains as the only suspect.

According to family and friends Frank Cordes has chosen not to take a polygraph.

A significant reward was offered but no one ever came forward with any information.

Leta Cordes has never been out of touch with family or friends before.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Dutch authorities on the island at 011-599-542-8761, or the FBI at 714 245 5207 if you have any information. Even the most minor of details are important.
